Device comprising a stage for selection of the mode of coding of the signals to be coded on the basis, on the one hand, of the current input signals of the coding device and, on the other hand, of predicted signals on the basis of preceding ones, a coding stage, an image reconstruction stage in a first reconstruction channel, an inter-image movement estimation stage, and a prediction stage, noteworthy in that, with the said digital signals being considered in blocks of a defined size performing subdivision of the images and processed independently, the image reconstruction stage also comprises a second image reconstruction channel according to a so-called reduced definition, situated in parallel with the said first channel, and in that the prediction stage comprises a circuit for image reconstitution by combining output signals from the said first and second reconstruction channels.
