The cable (20) is guided over freely rotatable rollers (10) whose radii are less thant he min. allowable at a 180 deg. bend. The arc of contact with each roller subtends less than 60 deg. while the spacing between the axes (11-19) of the rollers is at least 10 times as great. Tension applied by a motorised spindle (24) is measured (25) and recorded (27) together with the length (26) while the attenuation between the ends (21, 22) of the cable is measured (28). USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for air cables, esp. in conditions of varying temp. and longitudinal stretching, measurement errors w.r.t. actual operational behaviour are reduced.
