A downhole tool apparatus such as a packer or bridge plug utilises non-metallic components, eg. engineering grade plastics components. The non-metallic components may include a center mandrel (22), slips (28,54), slip wedges (32,46), slip supports (24,58) and housings, spacer rings, valve housings and valve components. These tools can be relatively easily drilled out after use without significant variations in the drilling speed and weight applied to the drill bit may be employed.
