The V-belt drive unit for a lift mechanism has the rotary axis (17) of the motor (9) and that of the cable drive pulley (5) almost horizontal. The motor is fixed at a point (11) vertically below its axis of rotation via a lever retaining element (10). Belt tensioning is achieved via a horizontally operating spring unit (12), which acts on the retaining lever to remove control contact (19) in the case of cable breakage or tear, and activates the cable pulley brakes (13a, 13b).
