PURPOSE:To obtain the optical modulator and optical switch which are small in size and have excellent characteristics by constituting the modulator and switch of a substrate consisting of the same blank material in order to solve the unstability of element characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The elements provided with optical waveguides 16 and electrodes 17 for modulating or switching on a lithium niobate crystal are adhered onto the substrate 12 consisting of the same blank material to remove the unnecessary stresses from the outside and to stabilize the elements. Optical fibers 18 are fixed in the positioning grooves of an optical fiber fixing board 13 provided on the substrate 12 and the elements are fixed by providing a spacing. Adhesives, such as cyaniacrylate, having a low viscosity are used for adhering the respective members. |
