The material under test is gripped between jaws (5) of a tensioning cylinder (3) and a setting spindle unit (4) respectively. The casing of the spindle unit has a flange (11) screwed to the body (2) of the chuck, and a hollow toothed wheel (15) at the end of the spindle (13), driven (16) by a stepping motor (17). The microprocessor memorises the dependence of the middle position of the sample on its shape and thickness and on the shape of the jaws (5). ADVANTAGE - Prevents erroneous settings in course of tests on different samples in rapid succession.
