The present invention relates to methods of producing a stamp representing a complex image of a given object. The method according to the invention is characterised essentially in that it consists in: predigitising an object by means of a computer, in order to form a predigitised image thereof, digitising the predigitised image by means of predefined parameters in order to form a digitised image thereof, recording the digitised image, in negative on a support, producing a photographic proof of the support including the digitised image in negative, exposing a plate by means of the photographic proof in order to produce a solid etched support, producing a first print of the solid etched support, then in producing a second print of the first print by means of a sheet of material exhibiting a certain elasticity, this second print constituting the stamp. Application: especially to printing faces on banking-type cheques.
