Compounds related to paraherquamide of formula (I) are prepared by culturing Penicillium sp. IMI 332995. A synthetic method of preparing N-oxides of paraherquamide derivatives of formula (I) and of partial formula (III) is disclosed. Also a compound of formula (II) which is believed to be a bio-precursor of paraherquamide is provided.
