A back brace apparatus is disclosed which has electromechanical means (20) for tightening a corset (10) around the trunk of a patient to a desired tension. The electromechanical means (20) includes a motor (35) and pinch rollers (31a) and (31b) which are controllable by the patient using a microcomputer (40).
