Original process for obtaining polymers of poly-para-phenylene vinylene type or of poly-para-thienylene vinylene type employing a polyelectric precursor based on sulphoniums. An acid treatment of such a precursor makes it possible to obtain the desired polymers directly. These polymers of high molecular masses are particularly advantageous in the field of engineering plastics.
