PURPOSE:To enable a cathode-ray tube to be used under severe natural conditions such as sunlight and temperature, by forming each of control electrode and accelerating electrode with a linear electrode of a reed screen like shape. CONSTITUTION:A negative voltage relative to the potential of a negative electrode 6 is applied to a control electrode 7; a positive voltage relative to the potential of the negative electrode 6 is impressed to an accelerating electrode 12; and a higher voltage than that of the accelerating electrode 12 is applied to a luminescent surface 17. An electron current discharged from the negative electrode 6 illuminates the entire luminescent surface 17. Emission 19 from the luminescent surface 17 is transmitted through the meshes of the accelerating electrode 12 and the control electrode 7, and it is discharged through a window 5 of an upper housing 2 outside a tube 1. A number of such cathode-ray tubes are arranged in a plane to constitute a picture display device. |
