PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst capable of decontaminating exhaust gas with high oxygen concn. by removing nitrogen oxide even at low temp. with high efficiency, and a decontaminating method for exhaust gas using the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for decontaminating exhaust gas is constituted of gallium (1), at least one kind of components (2) among an alkali metal element and an alkaline earth metal and zeolite (3). This catalyst reduces and removes nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas within an oxidizing atmosphere at reaction temp. of 200-800 deg.C in the presence of hydrocarbon with total THC concn./NOx concn. 0.5-50. Herein, THC concn. is concn. given when hydrocarbon is converted to methane. |
