Test elements for use in clinical analyzers are usually assembled from a number of components which have fairly complex shapes and then bonded together using ultrasonic welding techniques. This requires careful assembly to provide adequate bonding. Described herein is a novel slide test element (10) and a method of its manufacture. The test element (10) comprises a frame member (20) having a recess (32) in which is retained a reaction member (12). An overhanging lip (34) is formed in a sidewall of the recess (32) to hold the reaction member (12) in position once assembled. Assembly is achieved by bending the frame member (20) with the lip (34) facing outwardly, forcing it to part a distance sufficient to allow the reaction member (12) to be inserted, and then relaxing the frame member (20) once the reaction member (12) has been inserted.
