The present invention relates to a device for setting a robot with respect to a production line. The device is characterised in that it comprises at least three precision spheres (2, 3, 4) of a working zone (5) of the production line, an assembly (7) mounted on an arm (8) of the robot (1), comprising an optical-telemetry distance measurement apparatus and means for displacement in Cartesian or polar coordinates of the measurement apparatus so that it scans the surfaces of the spheres (2, 3, 4) and provides distance values between the points of the spherical cap of each sphere (2, 3, 4) and a reference plane of the measurement apparatus in order thus to define the coordinates of these points in the reference frame of the robot (1).
