The mat according to the invention consists of a support (2) produced in an anti-rebound (non-bounce) material, in contact with the ground (3), on or under which obstacles (4) made from plastic material are cast (poured) or moulded. The obstacles (4) are arranged on the support (2) in random manner (haphazardly) in order to reconstitute the surface condition of natural ground. A rolling surface (5) may be secured to the support (2) and cover over the obstacles (4). The surface (5) may consist of a carpet (pile fabric) (7) of the "velour (velvet)" type, possibly mounted on a jute fabric (6); it may itself receive an entire set of obstacles (4') produced in cast or moulded plastic material. This mat is intended for playing bowl or ball games and, in particular, for playing the game of petanque. <IMAGE>
