The invention relates to a floating system for attenuating swell, composed of two or more superimposed plates mechanically joined with respect to each other. This rigid assembly attenuates the swell by virtue of two connected functions. The function of the surface plate is to make the cycloid movements of the swell horizontal, the function of the deep plate is to act as vertical anchorage. This movable system is anchored to the sea bed flexibly upstream and downstream with respect to the direction of the swell. Joining several modules in parallel or in series locally improves the coefficient of damping. Owing to continuous braking in its vertical mobility, the system is effective over a very wide range of wavelengths and the structure subjected to calculable loading becomes mechanically reliable. <IMAGE>
