The present invention relates to devices for analysing the surface condition of the ground, for a mobile vehicle capable of entering into contact with this ground. The device according to the invention is essentially characterised in that it includes a light source 5 mounted in cooperation with the mobile vehicle 3 in order to direct its beam 6 to a point 7 on the surface 2, a photosensitive detector (receiver) 20 mounted in cooperation with the mobile vehicle so as to direct the axis 23 of its detection (reception) field 24 onto the point 7 and means 50 for processing the signals delivered by the detector, the detector 20 being mounted in cooperation with the mobile vehicle by means of a flexible wall 25 hanging towards the ground 2 and solidly attached to the vehicle at one of its ends, the detection input 26 of the detector being fixed on its other end.
