Prodn. of microporous polymer films is effected by (a) preparing a 0.3-6 wt.% aq. soln. of a water-soluble, CH2Cl2-insol. thickener (I); (b) emulsifying the soln. with a 5-15% CH2Cl2 soln. of a film-forming thermoplastic polymer (II); (c) spreading the mixt. onto a carrier by means of a tendem doctor blade; (d) stripping off CH2CL2 with a gas stream at 20-60 deg.C; and (e) drying the film at 100-180 deg.C. The soln. of (I) has a visocsity of 0.07-0.5 Pa.sec. The soln. of (II) has a viscosity of 0.1-1 Pa sec. The wt. ratio of the soln. of (I) to the soln. of (II) is 90:10 to 60:40.
