The invention concerns a method of determining simultaneously the range and speed of a target, in particular an aircraft target, using a radar system operating at a high pulse-repetition frequency. The received signal, which is essentially the transmitted signal reflected by the target, is analysed for Doppler effect and the group delay of the target spectrum determined. The range of the moving target is then determined from the group delay.
