Measuring intensity of UV light emitted from source - using gas=filled photocell operated with pulsed voltage in self-sustaining glow discharge region and determining ratio of mean discharge pulse duration to trigger pulse duration

A gas-filled photocell, on which the radiation is incident, is operated with pulsed voltage in the self-sustaining glow discharge region. The voltage produces a periodic trigger pulse duration, during which the applied voltage is greater than or equal to the ignition voltage. Discharge voltages are thus produced when a photoelectric emission occurs as a result of photons arriving at the photocathode. The ratio of the average discharge pulse duration to the trigger pulse duration is determined as an indicator of radiation intensity. This ratio is less than 1.
