The coil carrier lies concentric to the central axis (2) of the brake or clutch and has an annular base (6) enclosing a centralopening (4), with an axially projecting edge (8, 10) around its inner and outer periphery providing a U-shaped channel for reception of the magnetic coil (14). The inner and outer radial edges are provided by angularly spaced tongues stamped out from the sheet metal disc used to form the base, before bending at right angles to the plane of the latter in the same axial direction. Pref. selected tongues remain in the radial plane of the base and are provided with axial fixing bores.
