The safety circuit is used to prevent accidents when the optical fibre lead (PT) receiving the laser light is ruptured. It uses an electronic comparator (D) receiving a signal from a monitoring photodiode (MFD) cooperating with a digital of the optical fibre lead (PT) and comparing it with a selected reference level, to supply a switch signal for a controlled switch (SMOD). The latter disconnects the modulation current and/or disconnects the modulation current and/or the bias current for the laser diode transmitter (LDS). Pref. the comparator (D) comprises a differential amplifier coupled at its output to the reset input of a resettable flip-flop (RSFF), with its setting input coupled to a reference potential via a manual pushbutton (T). The non-inverting output of the flip-flop (RSFF) controls the cutout switch.
