Object detector for vehicle blind spot - prevents opening of door by activating door brake when approaching object is detected

The object detector includes a contactless, clearance distance measuring device (6) which controls a door brake mechanism. The door brake is activated before or during movement if the door, whenever an approaching object is detected. The distance measuring device is pref. mounted in the door folding and may be switched on by a switch which is activated by movement of the door (2). The distance measuring device may be ultrasonic, infrared or a radar system. ADVANTAGE - Prevents vehicles and bicycles (4), posts etc. colliding with door.
