A container (24) of viscous substance is tipped on its side to put its outlet at the lowest point. A coupling device (23) is screwed into the container outlet and connects with a liquid outlet piece (28) which is of T-configuration with a discharge outlet (26). The outlet piece provides for injection of microwave energy through the coupling device and into the contents of the container to effect heating of those contents with consequent reduction of viscosity, enabling flow to the outlet. A magnetron (10) is coupled to a waveguide section (22) via a coupling element (21). In order that the magnetron with its associated power supplies and cooling systems, may be housed in a convenient remote unit, the waveguide section is coupled via a flexible waveguide section (33).
