Proposed is a contact stud (10) for conducting high currents, in particular in starting relays, the contact plate (11) being made of a precious metal, in particular copper, and the stud and plate being joined tightly together at an obtuse-angled conical interface to form an electrically conducting connection. In order to ensure a reliable, permanent electrical connection between the stud (10) and plate (11), with a low contact resistance between the two, the conical stud tip (15) has corrugations or serrations at least in the zone (15b) near the edge of the conical surface. The contact plate (11) has a conical recess (13) which is pressed over the corrugations or serrations (16) on the conical tip (15) of the stud and welded in place by resistance welding.
