The arrangement for damping the bearings of a metal wheel running on a rail in which a ball bearing (1) contains damping ring segments (2a,2c) with progressively decreasing diameters which are slid into the inner ring (1a) of the bearing. The bearing fits on the shaft (3) of the wheel (5) and each ring segments is provided with a series of holes (6) to allow the formation of oil films between the segments. USE - Damping vibrations in wheels running on hard surfaces, especially rails.
