A filter constructed in a refractory material comprises a series of refractory plates, pref. reinforced with wires or glass fibres, that are superimposed and separated at their centres by empty spaces, each plate having a number of holes or perforations. These holes or perforations in an individual plate are arranged in a stagger with respect to those in the adjacent plates to form a zigzag path for the material being filtered. The inner face of each plate has a projecting peripheral border, adjacent plates being equipped with locating holes or nipples respectively to facilitate their connection.
