PURPOSE:To obtain the subject stable callus having high SAIKO-saponin content in a short time in high efficiency by culturing the tissue of a plant of the genus Bupleurum in a hexit-containing medium. CONSTITUTION:Tissue of a plant belonging to the genus Bupleurum (e.g. Bupleurum falcatum and Bupleurum longiradiatum) is cultured in a medium containing hexit (preferably mannitol). The concentration of the hexit is preferably 0.3-0.7M and the culture temperature is preferably about 26 deg.C. The cultivation is preferably carried out by subculture comprising the transplantation of a part of the callus and the culture liquid to a new medium according to the proliferation of the cell. |
