A cushion, and partic. a car seat type, is produced with a fabric covering by foaming underneath; the covering is laid along the edge of a vacuum forming tool containing (at least partly) a mould cavity, strecthing the covering taut, applying a vacuum to the cavity, drawing down and positioning the fabric covering, introducing a foaming reactive mix on the reverse side of the covering, allowing this mix to foam and cure, and demoulding the finished cushion. Before actually applying the vacuum the covering is brought into contact with at least on moving components of the cavity wall; it is fixed at that place; the part of the wall plus the covering are then moved to the moulding position and now (at the latest) the vacuum is applied to the mould.
