The droplets of oleophile, water-resistant coating medium are produced in point or matrix form, and the nozzles (3) are movable in two vertical directions. A central control unit (6) provides digital picture information from a data carrier (7) and the control signals are fed to the nozzles (3) and to the printing cylinder (5) via a transmission unit (8) and a control unit (9). The coating medium is transferred to a printing cylinder in a printing machine and with stationary nozzles are transferred to a printing plate displaceable in X/Y direction, whereby the control unit (9) is also of the X/Y type.
