PURPOSE:To provide a magneto-optical recording medium exhibiting excellent recording and reproducing characteristic even under low external magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:In the magneto-optical recording medium which is made by film-forming a thin rare earth-transition metal alloy film and a dielectric film on a substrate, a gas containing oxygen as a composition element is introduced when film-forming the dielectric film. Carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide is also used with oxygen as the gas containing oxygen as the composition element, and when carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide is selected, a SiN film (SiCON film) containing oxygen and carbon is formed. When constituting the magneto- optical recording medium of four layer structure or five layer structure having SiCON film as the dielectric film, the film thickness of the 1st dielectric film is preferably 600-900Angstrom film thickness of the 2nd dielectric film is <=300Angstrom . In this result, magnetic field sensitivity of the magneto-optical recording medium increases. |
