Item of furniture comprising a rigid frame, a functioning surface 8 and an element 9 for supporting said functional surface 8. The frame consists of two lateral structures and of transverse means for rigid joining between both structures, each structure comprising a pair of bars 1, 2 joined angularly together, which constitute the front 1 and rear 2 legs of the side of the item of furniture, the rear legs being wider apart than the front legs. The transverse means for rigid joining comprise at least one upper transverse rear element 3, which, together with said lateral structures and with the floor, defines a rear opening for the nesting of the front part of another identical item of furniture, by means of displacement over the floor. The bars of each lateral structure are straight and their thickness is proportional to the sine of the angle they form with the floor. <IMAGE>
