PURPOSE:To enable an image processor to restore a fine line multi-valued image from a pseudo halftone binary image by using a pair of windows having a width of one picture element as a calculating means for detecting edge quantity from the difference between two pairs of black picture elements containing a relevant picture element. CONSTITUTION:In a halftone data restore section 101, an edge intensifying component calculating section 111, based on the pseudo halftone binary image data to be input, generates the max absolute value data of edge discrimination quantity. Further, an edge discriminating section 113, based on the max value of the absolute value of the edge discriminating quantity to be input, outputs an edge discriminating signal to the edge intensifying component calculating section 111 and a smoothing value calculating section 112. This constitution allows the edge intensifying component calculating section 111 to prepare two pairs, each of which consists of two windows for detecting edge in a certain direction, and to lay a processing picture element in a section where one window of one pair is in contact with the other window of the same pair. The window is set to have the width of one picture element. |
