PURPOSE:To obtain an image fiber with the interval between picture elements decreased, densified, having a small diameter and excellent in flexibility. CONSTITUTION:A core 2 obtained by incorporating >=1wt.% of an OH group into a pure-quartz glass and a clad 3 obtained by using an alkoxysilane as the glass material and doping the quartz glass with B2O3 and/or F are formed to obtain an optical fiber 5 in which the viscosity difference between the core 2 and clad 3 is diminished and without need for a jacket glass in spinning, and many optical fibers 5 are bundled to form an image fiber 1. Noises are arrested when a picture is transmitted. The image fiber can be used even in UV environment and is excellent in radiation resistance, and the difference in the refractive index between the core and clad is increased. |
