METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF CHYMOPAPAIN

This method is used in medicine for extracting medical agents for the treatment of inter-vertebra disc hernia. The product is highly active and is derived in a simple way : the raw chymopapain is dissolved in water containing a phosphate or acetate buffer, with a pH between 5 and 7, in the presence of a reducer, such as cystein or sodium bisulphite. The derived pure solution is subjected to gel chromatography in a column in proportion between the length and diameter in the 5:1 and 50:1 range and containing sephadex G-50 or sephadex G-25, after which the chymopapain fractions are gathered and lyophilised.
