PURPOSE:To efficiently produce an useful peptide or protein derived from variant in large quantities using a microorganism of the genus Bacillus as a host. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism of the genus Bacillus in which gene is introduced is transformed by a plasmid containing a gene coding peptide or protein. The transformant is cultured in a culture medium to which soluble starch and/or manganese salt is added to produce an useful substance derived from variant. The microorganism of the genus Bacillus includes a microorganism obtained by introducing a gene into Bacillus subtilis reduced in protease activity.
