ASSIGNING DEVICE FOR IMAGE MEMORY

PURPOSE:To assign planes in accordance with the number of colors to be used by respective picture areas and to improve the degree of freedom in an image memory by dividing a display picture into plural picture areas and displaying respective picture areas with colors by means of planes each of which expresses a specific color display. CONSTITUTION:This assigning device is especially provided with an area information part 40, a plane information part 50 and a color information part 60. The area information part 50 defines the size and position of each picture area. The plane information part 50 defines which plane 20 is to be used in the relevant corresponding picture area. The color information part 60 defines the number of colors expressing the plane 20 to be used for the corresponding picture area. Assignment to respective picture areas of a memory is executed based upon said the information and an image display device 30 reads out the plane 20 corresponding to each picture area and displays its corresponding picture on a display screen 10. Thus the image memory is effectively allocated to respective picture areas and especially in the case of superposing and displaying many pictures like window display, the degree of freedom in memory assignment can be increased.
