摘要 PURPOSE:To execute efficient inoculation and to prevent the incorporation of a metallic oxide, etc. into a molten metal by bringing the molten metal poured into a casting mold into contact with an inoculant in a contg. pocket provided to a sprue in the mold then conducting the same through a porous ceramic body into the cavity. CONSTITUTION:The prescribed molten cast iron 28 poured into the casting mold 12 through a sprue 20 of the runner 14 thereof is first inoculated with the inoculant 18 in an intermediate chamber 16. The molten metal subjected to the inoculation treatment is then conducted through the inside of the porous structure of a ceramic foam 10 into the casting cavity 24 provided with a prescribed core 22. Namely, the instantaneous inoculation is executed nearest the place in the mold 12 where the product is going to solidify; therefore, the self- annihilation is obviated and the specified inoculation effect is provided. The amt. of the inoculant 18 to be added is considerably decreased. The ceramic foam 10 which consists essentially of cordierite, alumina, etc., has high porosity (for example, about 80-90%) and has the three-dimensional network skeleton structure of open cells is preferably used.
