The invention relates to a mechanical apparatus permitting the finishing of the cement joints on all horizontal or vertical tiled surfaces. The apparatus consists of a helmet (1) fixed to a handle (2) or to a grip (16); it comprises a fixed flap (8) and two or three movable flaps (9) which are activated by a system (1a). This system is controlled by a sheathed cable (6) which is connected to a grip (5) or to a push-button (19); a pressure exerted on the grip (5) or the push-button (19) triggers the system, which in turn controls the opening of the movable flaps. The said flaps close automatically as soon as the grip is released. <IMAGE>
