PURPOSE:To cover a bound lateral end with a cover sheet and form a cover copy image at an appropriate position by binding a sheet bundle with an image already formed together with a cover sheet which is more than double the size of a sheet, and allowing an image to be formed at a different time from the other image formation. CONSTITUTION:A sheet for a cover should preferably have a longitudinal length which is more than double the short side length of a recording sheet. A cyclic feed device 2 feeds a sheet bundle onto a contact glass 21 starting with the last sheet, and discharges the sheet immediately after the exposure of a light to the sheet. If the 'cover copy present' mode is selected in a simple bookbinding process, a sheet is fed from a sheet feed cassette for the cover upon the detection of the last copy. The exposure timing in this case is controlled so that an image is formed in the downstream side of a sheet transport route. The duplicated sheets and the cover C are sent to a finish tray 400 and their one ends are arranged. Then a staple 304 is driven into the bundle from above the cover C and the tip of the staple is bent to bind the bundle. After that, the cover C is bent to the side of the sheet bundle S to cover the latter. |
