摘要 PURPOSE:To correctly measure the resolution of a photoreceptor itself without developing an electrostatic latent image by outputting the resolution of the photoreceptor itself with the exposure section of the latent image formed on the photoreceptor and the boundary area width of a nonexposure section. CONSTITUTION:The portion where the potential is changed from about 10% to 90% within the potential difference between the potential 2a of an exposure section and the potential 3a of a nonexposure section is the width 4a of a boundary area, the width 4a is inversely proportional to resolution, the width 4a is expanded in relation to the elapsed time (t) after exposure as shown by the equation 4a=A(t/C. R)<1/2>, where C is the capacity of a photoreceptor, R is the surface resistance, and A is a proportional constant, thus the resolution is obtained when the width 4a is measured. A photoreceptor drum 11 is rotated, electrified and exposed 6, then an eraser lamp 9, an electrifier 5 and an exposing device 6 are stopped in sequence, the drum 11 is rotated while the electrostatic latent image formed on the photoreceptor is held, the boundary area on the photoreceptor is measured 12, and the resolution is calculated 13 from the measured value and elapsed time (t) when the width 4a becomes sufficiently larger than the resolution of an electrometer.
