The present invention relates to an electrostatic assistance device for a photogravure printing machine, including an annular transformer arranged at one of the extremities of the presser roller and the secondary circuit of which is linked electrically to a layer of conducting material trapped between two layers of insulating material coating a cylindrical metal core of the said presser roller. This electrostatic assistance device is characterised in that: - the layer of conducting material (16) is fed through the secondary circuit with a current the voltage of which is of the order of 1 to 5 kV and a strength of 0 to 15 mA; - the layer of internal insulating material (17) exhibits a resistivity greater than or equal to 1 gigohm; - and in that the layer of external insulating material (18) constitutes the outer casing of the presser roller (5) and exhibits a resistivity of the order of 0.5 to 1 gigaohm for a thickness (20) of 10 to 20 mm. <IMAGE>
