<p>A method and system for injection molding plastic articles using pressurized fluid introduced into the article defining cavity or runner (20) of a mold (12) by a sealed pin or valve (18) having an orifice (16) and movable between open and closed positions. The method involves the initial step of injecting molten resin from the nozzle (14) of an injection molding machine through a resin injection aperture at an upstream position in a mold (12). The resin travels along a resin flow path in the mold (12) to the cavity (10) defining the shape of the molded article at a downstream position. During or after resin injection, a pressurized charge of fluid enters the flow path at the orifice (16) and passes into the mold cavity (10) to distribute molten plastic within the mold cavity (10). The fluid is contained within the mold cavity (10) under pressure until the article has set up, and it thereafter vented.</p> |
