<p>A device to assist in the detection and recovery of lost submarine objects, comprising a transmitter unit (14) releasably secured to a support body (10) which is attached to a submarine object such as a seismic cable (42). The support body (10) contains a parameter sensor which activates a release means between the support body (10) and transmitter unit (14) upon detection that the parameter being sensed such as pressure, has exceeded a preset value. Once released the transmitter unit (14) floats to the surface (44) of the ocean but remains physically attached to the support body (10) and submarine object (42) by a tether means (40). The transmitter unit (14) transmits a signal to enable recovery of the submarine object (42).</p> |
