Two rocker arms (4,5) operated by the cams of a camshaft (3) activate at least one gas reversing valve (1). The cam contacting surfaces (12,16) of the two rocker arms (4,5) and/or the cams (2a,2b) are of different shapes. One end of the first arm (4) pivots around a fixed axis (6), while its other end activates the valve (10). The second arm (5) is mounted to the first one (4) on an axis (8) parallel to the fixed axis (6) and is moved into an operative position by a hydraulic piston (19), while a spring (24) renders it inoperative. USE/ADVANTAGE - A simple way of varying valve timing and stroke in IC engine.
