The use of 1-substd. alkyl-4-pyrimidinyl-piperazine deriv. of formula (I) and/or its salts in compsns. for treating alcoholism are new. n = 2-6; a gp. of formula (Ra) or (Rb) where R1, R2 amd R3 = H or lower alkyl. More specifically (I) is isapirone (Aa; n = 4; Rb with R3 = H) or gepirone (Ib; n = 4; Ra with R1=R2=Me).
