摘要 The brake control system has a proximity sensor (39) to measure the distance to an object, e.g. a leading vehicle. The control computes the relative speed between the vehicles and the likely impact time. The system operates the vehicle brakes if impact is predicted, the level of braking depending on the time estimated-gentle braking for longer times, and strong braking for shorter times. The computed impact time is compared with two reference levels. Above the first level the system either operates a warning to the driver and/or operates the brakes gently. Above the second level string braking is applied. The lower level is lifted once the driver applies the brakes. ADVANTAGE - Improved safety when driving in heavy traffic.
