PURPOSE:To provide a recording material which enables thermal recording in a non-contact mode at high speed and with a high resolution using a laser beam and a technique of recording an image thermally at high speed using a laser beam. CONSTITUTION:A recording material consists of at least, a light absorption layer 2, an adhesive layer 4 and a release sheet 5 provided sequentially on a support 1. The light absorption layer contains microcapsules 3 which contain a light-absorbing polymer and an organic solvent of a boiling point of 180 deg.C or higher capable of dissolving or swelling polymers as a core material. The recording material has the support 1 and/or the release sheet 5 which are transparent and a visible image is formed by irradiating the transparent side of the recording material with a laser beam and then releasing the release sheet 5.
