<p>A calcitonin originating in the ultimobranchial gland of a cartilaginous fish and having an activity of reducing the blood calcium level and the following amino acid sequence: H-Cys-Thr-Ser-Leu-Ser-Thr-Cys-Val-Val-Gly-Lys-Leu-Ser-Gln-Gln-Leu-His-Lys-Leu-Gln-Asn-Ile-Gln-Arg-Thr-Asp-Val-Gly-Ala-Ala-Thr-Pro-NH2 wherein the cystein residues are cross-linked with each other via a disulfide linkage. It is excellent in the activities of reducing the blood calcium level and promoting the differentiation of cartilaginous cells, so that it is useful as the remedies for hypercalcemia, osteoporosis, bone Paget diseases, and so forth.</p> |
