The surface cleaning system uses at least one spray nozzle (9) directing a cleaning fluid onto the surface to be cleaned. The spray nozzle (9) is attached to the top edge of the surface and is coupled to a cleaning fluid reservoir (6) via a pump (5). The pump motor is supplied by an electric battery which is fully charged or topped up using a solar charger, or a wind-powered generator. Pref. a wind funnel is supported by a rotary vertical shaft containing a propeller attached to the drive shaft of an electrical generator providing the top-up charge for the battery.
